Digital River Enhances its SoftwarePassport Technology
Adds new software marketing, merchandising and delivery options to its digital revenue management technology
MINNEAPOLIS, March 14, 2005-- Digital River, Inc. (NASDAQ: DRIV), a global leader in e-commerce outsourcing, today announced new enhancements to its SoftwarePassport technology. Through recent development efforts, Digital River has extended SoftwarePassport's digital revenue management capabilities to accommodate a wider range of software delivery options, business models and software applications, as well as offer more merchandising, marketing and international support.
Our SoftwarePassport technology continues to provide our software publishing clients an important tool for not only protecting, but also marketing, selling, distributing and tracking their digital assets across untapped, global online markets, said Joel Ronning, Digital River 's CEO. In addition to facilitating our clients' global growth objectives, the technology also supports two strategic corporate objectives for Digital River the expansion of our Online Sales Network and increased market penetration in European and Asia Pacific geographies.
To meet the needs of Digital River 's growing publisher base, the newly enhanced version of SoftwarePassport supports a wider range of software delivery options and economic business models. In addition to using SoftwarePassport technology to handle direct e-commerce purchases, publishers also can use it to manage trialware conversions, subscriptions, the online purchase of licenses, and the activation and licensing of physical products.
Digital River 's newly enhanced SoftwarePassport technology now:
• Offers support for the PC-based gaming market, including compression, trial-by-minutes and customized installers;
• Integrates with a software analytics tool to help publishers better understand and manage the software installation process, and gather data on how their products are being used by customers;
• Offers advanced tracking features to identify marketing-driven, lead source generation information, with full reporting;
• Includes new merchandising support for digital coupons, volume licensing and media pack delivery;
• Creates a positive international user experience with support for single- and double-byte character sets, including Japanese, German, French, Spanish and others;
• Offers a HTML-enabled download manager, localized for European and Japanese markets;
• Enables publishers to control the deactivation of a software product prior to refund to minimize the use of illegal licenses; and
• Provides advanced security updates to help publishers address emerging cracking and hacking tools and prevent illegal use of their products.
In addition, Digital River plans to provide added protection for an even broader range of software products by expanding SoftwarePassport's support from 32 to 64 bit applications. SoftwarePassport's 64 bit support will offer the same full feature capabilities as its 32 bit version. The 64 bit version is scheduled for release during the spring of 2005.
