Digital River Launches E-Commerce Store for Game Publisher Smith & Tinker
Supports U.S. online sales of virtual currency for Smith & Tinker's popular digital battling game, Nanovor
MINNEAPOLIS-DEC. 17, 2009 - Digital River, Inc. (NASDAQ: DRIV), a leading provider of global e-commerce solutions, announced that it launched a new U.S. online store for Smith & Tinker®, a company reinventing play for the connected generation. For the e-store, located at http://www.nanovor.com/products/nanocash/, Digital River is managing online sales of Nanocash, the virtual currency used in Nanovor™, Smith & Tinker's flagship game.
Nanovor, a next-generation digital battling monster game, combines the strategy of a collectible card game with the appeal of a multiplayer online game. Nanovor has been named to multiple 2009 holiday toy lists, including the FunFare Magazine 11th Annual Holiday Hot Dozen list and Dr. Toy's Best Picks of 2009 list.
"As the game industry continues its shift to online channels and calls for social interaction and community participation in more aspects of game play, publishers are looking for new ways to transform their game sales from a one-time purchase to ongoing revenue models," said Jeff Hemenway, Digital River's group vice president of games. "Digital River intends to lead publishers through this transition, providing them with new and more effective online strategies and best of breed technologies for monetizing their games."
Using Nanocash, kids can purchase online booster packs of Nanovor monsters and engage in secure micro-transactions with friends to strengthen their collections. Digital River is hosting the branded shopping cart for online purchases of Nanocash. Online transactions can be easily completed in the United States using major credit cards and PayPal.
"While the battling monster game is at the heart of Nanovor, the property and the discover- elements of the storyline engages kids' imaginations and allows them to become an integrated part of the Nanovor universe," said Joe Lawandus, president and co-founder of Smith & Tinker. "By partnering with Digital River on the e-commerce side of the equation, we can provide an easy and effective way for parents to purchase Nanocash, allowing young gamers an even more interactive, enriching experience."
