What is a ‘connection’?
Layman’s Definition of a Connection
A driver establishes a connection to a data source in order to interact with the data stored in the data source. For example, the driver connects to an Oracle database, then issues a select statement to query data, then disconnects from the Oracle database.

DataDirect’s Technical Definition of a Connection
A ‘Connection’ shall be defined as the driver state after a successful call to SQLConnect, SQLDriverConnect, or SQLBrowseConnect and before termination of this state, normally through a successful call to SQLDisconnect.
